DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Delta County organizations are opening their facilities as warming shelters as the winter storm leaves many without power.

According to the Delta County Emergency Management Facebook page, Escanaba’s Catherine Bonifas Civic Center is open until 4:00 p.m. The Civic Center may stay open longer based on the need at that time. The Civic Center is located at 225 North 21st Street.

The Ford River Fire Department posted on Facebook that the Ford River Township Hall is also open as a warming center.

“We know there are a lot of people without power and we are hearing it could be 2 or 3 days for some,” the post states. “We will have someone there so people can come and warm up… We want to thank all the power crews out working all night and day trying to restore power to the area.”

Anyone with questions about the Ford River Township Hall can contact Township Supervisor Steve Nelson at (906) 399-6411.

Delta County Emergency Management says utility operators are working to restore power as quickly as possible Those experiencing outages are asked to contact their provider. 911 should only be utilized in cases of emergency involving a fire, an accident with a downed energized line, or injury.
