Northern Michigan University started their two year renovation on Harden Hall at the end of December 2023. Liberty Olson Library is currently in the process of moving all their books and shelves as well as services like tutoring over to Gries Hall. However the bottom level where Fiera’s and the computer center are, will remain open during renovations.
The new facilities are intended to better the students in whatever ways it can, through the writing center or just collaborating with other students. Chief Marketing Director Derek Hall said the new facilities will improve the students experience, “This um, renovation is gonna have an impact on all of our students it’s just a great opportunity, but it will also bring a lot of student focused department together in an area that students will be congregating a great deal”.
The renovations are predicted to cost around $40 million for the top two floors of Liberty Olson Library as well as some of the science’s building and the science labs. NMU is very excited for the final project as well as how the students can benefit from the new facilities.
