The Public Gallery Program is put on by the city of Marquette Officials of Arts and Design and the Peter Public Library, with the purpose of creating a creative and open space for all to display their work.
Amelia Pruiett, City of Marquette Arts and Culture communications coordinator shares what this program is all about, “This program was established to provide an inclusive and accessible space for both artist and the local community”.
The Public Gallery Program has adopted a new application process in recent years to allow local artist to share and showcase their work with the community. The applications are free of charge and allow the applicate the have full control over their exhibit or display of art work. The exhibits themselves are also free of charge for viewers during the Peter Public library hours of operation.
Exhibit proposals or applications deadline is Sunday, March 31 2024 at Midnight, each applicant can only propose one exhibit and there is no fee to apply.
Peter Public Library offer two spaces for exhibits to be displayed, “Deo Gallery” and “Huron Mountain Club Gallery”. Both are open to the public, just with different guidelines for the work being shown. Doe is more of a fine arts gallery with all mediums, compared to Huron Mountain Club is for the community collectives of art that has a message either about culture or to educate, etc.
Pruiett explained the differences between the two galleries “Previously the two gallery spaces where managed completely separate. So now they are curated together, it’s under one application umbrella as well, um, artists can apply to both spaces or either space, um, as well as the exhibit schedule rotates on a bi-monthly basis and both exhibits turn over at the same time, and there is a collective receptions evening the second Thursday of the opening month”.
