MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A collective team of 15 volunteers is helping out local soon-to-be parents lending a hand in preparing for a newborn. Through its Great Start Collaborative team, Marquette-Alger RESA was putting together informational care packages today, showing support for the quality of early childhood. Each package stores a pack of diapers, baby wipes, and even a comfort blanket in a cooler that encourages parents to speak to their newborns.
The goal of the collaborative team is to make sure all children are born healthy and organizers said that starts with preparing parents. “One of the things that I hear from parents is that parenting can feel very isolating and so this is to help parents not feel so isolated and to know that there is a community of support and there are actually a lot of resources and ways to be connected,” commented Organizer Angela Miller-Porter.
Marquette-Alger RESA is encouraging any parents expecting to reach out to them or their local health department for the care packages.
