MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The weekend of October 13th marks the start of one of the most anticipated races north of the bridge, the Lake Superior Performance Rally. The rally race starts Friday, however, before they hit the terrain the cars need to be inspected.
Today at the Fox Marquette Subaru Dealership, the rally cars were receiving a tech inspection, ensuring that all cars have the required safety equipment. All cars will receive what’s called a “rally safe unit” chip that monitors speed and GPS location. The inspectors are also checking all other features on the car such as brake lights, horns, and even the insurance within the vehicle.
“That’s another part of it, these cars have to be both street legal and rally legal so that’s an important factor so every time you see a rally car you need to remember that car is street legal and had to meet the requirements to run on the roads,” commented Assistant Chief of Check Barb Harty. Some of the staging run across street roads and each driver must obey traffic laws.
