LANSING, Mich. (WZMQ) – As lawmakers head back to work this fall, The UP’s 110th House District Representative said his office is prioritizing constituent services, to make sure the people in the district have what they need.
Representative Greg Markkanen said his summer was filled with trips across his district, taking time to meet with constituents and spending time in the community. To finish up 2023, Representative Markkanen said his office is putting in efforts to focus on helping the people of the 110th district.
From helping with the state treasury, assisting with unemployment claims, or veterans affairs, Representative Markkanen said he’s happy his office is there to answer questions and assist anyone in the district.
“It’s the furthest away from Lansing,” Representative Markkanen said. “Sometimes people don’t know who to call.”
This week, Representative Markkanen said The House Education Committee met to listen to students, teachers, and parents affected by gun violence in schools. Markanen said that as a former school teacher, school safety is very critical to him, and that how they deliver that, and how we keep our communities and our schools safe is very important to him.
Representative Markkanen said that moving forward, he’d like to be able to focus on ensuring that UP schools, and other rural areas aren’t left behind as they work on mental health resources and creating solutions to make sure students feel safe and comfortable in classrooms.
