MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, the Manistique Public Safety Department responded to a report of a garage fire on Deer Street.
An officer from the Sault Tribe Police Department arrived at the scene first. The officer reported the fire conditions to responding Manistique Public Safety Department units. It was determined the garage was not attached to any other structure and there was active smoke and fire present.
Firefighters from Manistique Public Safety and the Manistique Volunteer Fire Department got the fire under control within minutes. Fire units remained on scene to complete salvage and overhaul on the garage. All responders cleared the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m.
The structure and its contents suffered extensive fire, smoke, and water damage. The origin of the fire was identified, but the actual cause is currently unknown.
Manistique Public Safety was assisted on scene by the Manistique Volunteer Fire Department, the Sault Tribe Police Department, the Michigan State Police, Cloverland Electric, and SEMCO Energy.
