ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – On July 17th at approximately 4:12 AM, the City of Ishpeming Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 787 S. Pine Street.
When they arrived, fire crews found a 2-story duplex with heavy fire showing from a window in the rear of the structure. The initial fire attack was defensive and then transitioned to offensive after the fire was knocked down.
Firefighters got the fire under control within about 15 minutes of being on the scene. The fire was contained to the first floor of apartment 1 of the duplex. Crews stayed on the scene until around 6:00 AM checking for any extension or hot spots.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. The building was occupied at the time of the fire and all residents were able to get out. One civilian was transported to Bell Hospital with difficulty breathing. There were no firefighter injuries.
Pigs-N-Heat and the Red Cross will be assisting the residents.
