MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – At approximately 6:05 am on Monday, July 3, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a single vehicle crash occurring on Wright Street near Forestville Road in Marquette Township.
The investigation at the scene shows a single vehicle crash involving a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu, being driven by a 45-year-old Lansing man, was southbound when it left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant.
Significant damage was caused to the front of the vehicle as well as the fire hydrant. The damaged hydrant ruptured, causing water to spew.
Marquette Public Works was required to come to the scene and shut off water to residents in the area. Water has since been restored to residents.
The driver was transported from the scene by Marquette Township EMS to UPHS-Marquette for treatment, and was subsiquently arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs (OUID). He was lodged in the Marquette County Jail.
Deputies were assisted on scene by Marquette City Police Department, Marquette Township EMS, Marquette Township Fire Department, Marquette Township Public Works, and Marquette Detailing.
The investigation into the crash is on-going.
