MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – New for MARESA’s Transition school this year is a SOAR Program, bringing more positivity to the environment. We went to class today to find out what it was all about.

Proud to be part of the program, Nick kicked off the day with these words, “SOAR high, I love elevators and while giving the peace sign said, “peace out.”

Students from MARESA’s Transition school gathered this morning for an assembly recognizing those who throughout the month followed the school’s newly adopted SOAR program, to be Safe On task, Aware, and Respectful.

This school’s transition class continues education and training for students with disabilities after senior high school for ages 18 to 26, learning life skills to graduate onto their future careers becoming one within the community.

And today the school awarded the students for their soaring in school and outside of the school into the community.

Transition student, Derek, set a record this morning with 7 awards and he told us, “It shows pride onto me. They say I’ve done something good for others and a lot of things.”

Working hard to better themselves to be able to put their best superpowers into action at home and in the workplace.

Another student, Noah also quite the spokesman according to his peers, shared with us, “It’s so honoring, cuz, because we need those skills in our life, if we don’t have those skills in our life, how are we gonna, how are we gonna get from point A to point B to, you know.”

Teaching positive attributes to carry on with every aspect of their day and working towards graduation.

An end date too soon in the horizon for Noah and he told us, “When I started at MARESA’s Transitions, I was so nervous, but you know I’ve overcome my nervousness and I’ve been here for 4 years now, and I love it. And I don’t ever want to leave, but I, but we have to unfortunately we have to graduate.”

And when that time does arrive, they take these life skills and “SOAR” into their futures.
