MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ)- Restaurant week has put the spotlight on Marquette’s eateries this week, but local historian Jim Koski turned back the clock and brought cuisine of the past to the forefront tonight.
Greasier the Spoon, a movie all about the long and tasty history of places to eat in marquette county premiered tonight. Kski has been working on the film for over 3 years and showed to it a packed house at the marquette regional history center according to Koski while putting together film he uncovered some very interesting things
“Restaurants really seem to invoke nostalgia in people, and when we put shots on the screen of restaurants that havent been around for 20 or 30 years you can hear the, ‘Aww,’ and that’s what we were going for,” said Koski.
Audience members said the film unlocked memories they didn’t know they had and some even left the premiere wanting to try some of the things they had seen on screen.
“I became very thirsty for root beer, A&W root beer during this,” remarked Paul Hughes, a man who grew up in Marquette and remembered a lot of the restaurants Koski mentioned in the film.
Greasier the Spoon is for sale at the Marquette Regional History Center on DVD or a digital version will soon be available here.
