NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Negaunee’s Heikki Lunta Winter Festival kicked off Friday evening with some flair.
The festivities started with a rail jam downtown. Athletes were welcome to show off their best tricks on a course that was just installed in the days prior.
Hundreds showed up to watch despite the single-digit temperatures. Athletes and spectators said it’s all about coming together for some fun.
“I don’t snowboard very much. It’s only my third time out this year, so I’m not trying to be competitive,” said snowboarder Chase Collick. “It’s just about having fun out here. All the guys are just enjoying each other’s company, and we’re just all having fun.”
“I just love the whole environment, just being able to come out, watch some guys shred on a very awesome park that they popped up here,” added Alec Houston, a vendor and attendee.
