MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) — Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Day is always celebrated on the third Monday of January, as his birthday is January 15th.
Students gathered together on Northern Michigan University’s campus to honor the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. with a day of service.
Students, faculty and visitors gathered inside the Woods Lodge at noon for featured speaker, Angela Morhman, kicking off the event.
Mohrman says she’s focused on goals to improve inclusion and diversity within the STEM education fields.
Angela Mohrman, “Dr King gave us some guidance, be that change that means get involved go out in your community and set that example of what you want to see.”
After the speech the group shared a meal together and congregated in groups to begin the day of service activities. These activities were making cards, decorating cookies, making blankets and dog toys that would be donated.
The event was coordinated by the NMU Volunteer Center and the Student Equity and Engagement Center.
