GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) — An unforeseen FAA system outage across the country overnight impacted UP airports, but flights are still on schedule at Sawyer International.
The FAA ordered all US airlines to delay domestic departures until 9 am eastern today as it worked to restore its “notice to air man”–“NOTAM.” Sawyer Internationals Airport Director says the system started to malfunction for Sawyer around 4 pm, the day prior. He says the airport took the proper steps to ensure safety of all flights.
Duane Duray, “The FAA has done their due diligence it is a very big step to actually delay the countries aviation network. That is a step that the one other time, I saw the FAA shut down the network, and that was during 9/11.”
The director says, even after the system relaunch at 9 this morning, Sawyer hasn’t been able to report to the NOTAM system, but they are able to report through other methods.
Duray confirmed Sawyer’s scheduled flights, are on time.
