LANSING, Mich. (WZMQ) – Anyone who has not yet filled out taxes in 2022 can still file and claim money for the Child Care Tax Credit.
Those applying can get up to $3,600 per child with the 2021 Child Tax Credit or up to $1,400 per person for any missed stimulus payments for your or your children/dependents. Other payments for those with earnings from last year could also be received.
According to Michigan School Meals, anyone applying could get thousands of dollars in federal money by filing a federal tax return. Those applying can file even if they have low income or no income or have never filed taxes or in the last few years.
This money does not count for most benefits like SNAP, WIC, TANF, MEDICAID, CHIP, SSI and most types of public and subsidized housing according to Michigan School Meals.
Those without a Social Security Number can still receive payments for children that do have SSNs. According to Michigan School Meals under current law, receiving the Child Tax Credit or other tax credits will not affect your immigration status, ability to get a Green Card or future immigration plans.
The application form will take around 15 minutes to complete. Tax documents are not required however those applying who want to claim additional money with Earned Income Tax Credit will need W-2 form(s) from your employer(s).
GetCTC.org is a non-profit service built by Code for America. The application is a simplified tax filing tool to claim Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit and any missing amount of your third stimulus payment.
