MARQUETTE, MI – NMU football wasn’t the only team that walked away with a big win over the homecoming weekend, as the NMU Northstars defeated its sister team the Michigan Tech Huskies.
Coming off a historical season clutching third in the nation, the NMU Northstars are ranked first in the small college division.
Saturday’s homecoming game against Tech saw the Northstars exhibit their first-ranking ability by beating Tech 82-10.
“We are really just tyring to hold ourselves accountable both on and off the field so we are making sure that work is being put in together and separated,” said Kaitlyn Bammel from the Northstars.
The sister teams support each other by having practice scrimmages against each other and playing snow rugby in the winter, providing opportunities to give each other experience.
“For me, it’s an honor because I get to play with these girls, and being a sister team means you are like family,” said MTU Husky Samara Schlauderaff. “These girls pick each other up as well as picking up [their] own team and it’s really important to be a friendly player.”
“I really enjoy the rugby culture, it’s a fun game to play and everyone comes together after the games, and it’s friendly, it’s amazing,” said NMU Northstar Claudine Beellot.
Both teams have a lot of traveling to do in the coming weekends and we wish both teams the best of luck.
