Budget Increase Provide Opportunity for Schools

by Mitchell Rife
August 25, 2022
A A

The start of school marks new classes, new teachers, and (what we all look forward to) football season. This year on July 14th, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed a $19.6 billion education spending bill. This confirms into law a historic investment into teachers, students and schools as a whole.

What does this mean for the schools of the Upper Peninsula? What can parents expect from this new budget?

For Escanaba and Marquette Public Schools, this new budget brings opportunities to bring on more social workers. With the workers also being district-wide, this means they can reach more students and provide more help to those who need support. MAPS has also hired instructional coaches in every building.

Somebody that helps work with individuals and groups of students, works with teachers and administrators to essentially continue improving our instructional practice

Zack Sedgwick, MAPS Superintendent
