Sophia Murphy is WZMQ 19’s Michigan Capitol Correspondent.
She joined WZMQ 19 News in 2022 as a reporter/multimedia journalist.
A Michigan native, she graduated from Northern Michigan University in Marquette with a bachelors degree in Multimedia Production in the spring of 2023. While at NMU, she worked as a Resident Advisor. In 2021, Sophia was a Program Assistant working with kindergarteners in a program through Parks and Recreation in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
Sophia was promoted to a full-time reporter after her graduation and began covering state government in Lansing in August 2023. She is responsible for tracking the Upper Peninsula’s elected leaders and issues of concern to the U.P. Her reports are exclusive to WZMQ 19 News and WZMQ19.com.
