Trump says Congressional Members of January 6 Committee Should be Jailed

by WZMQ

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President-Elect Donald Trump said during a TV interview some congressional members of the committee that investigated the January 6, 2021 US Capitol attack, should go to jail. He also added on his first day in office, he looks at pardoning the January sixth rioters.

Trump stated there could be some exceptions to his pardons if someone was radical or crazy. According to online sources, a little more than 15-hundred people have been charged for taking part during that day. More than 12-hundred have pleaded guilty or been convicted in the attack. Hundreds have been sentenced and many are still serving their sentences.

The incoming President also zeroed in on the House January Sixth Select Committee, which investigated the Capitol attack. Trump said committee members should go to jail. Trump said he will not ask the Department of Justice or the FBI to arrest them, but that his nominees should look into it themselves.

After January sixth and leaving office, Trump has faced four separate criminal cases. He has described the cases as a weaponization of the federal government towards him. Before the elections and on the campaign trail, Trump has said previously that he would use federal agencies to go after his political rivals if he was to win back the White House.

Former Congresswoman Liz Cheney told The New York Times that Trump’s comments to imprison her and the other members on that committee is “’an assault on the rule of law and the foundations of our republic.’”
