HUBBEL, Mich. (WZMQ) – This weekend outdoor enthusiasts will have the chance to take a guided tour of the Hungarian Falls in Hubbel.
The Keweenaw Land Trust will be leading a hike from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday. Parents are asked to be aware this is a rustic area with steep slopes and no guardrails – so children must be watched closely. The hike goes along about two miles of trail with some steep sections. If a storm is forecast, the event will be canceled.
Hikers will hear from experts about winter forest ecology, geology and local history. With the recent snowfall the Land Trust says it might be worth packing a pair of snowshoes for the hike.
“We are really fortunate to have Rachel Tarpey, a Forester at the Forest Service, she will join us with her young kids and tell us about the winter forest and what animals we can expect to see,” remarked Nancy Langston of the Keweenaw Land Trust.
Hikers are encouraged to pre-register for the event here.
