The UP200 – Powered by NMU is keeping a close eye on the weather ahead of this weekend’s race.
Below is a new announcement posted to the UP200 website Tuesday:
Everyone looking forward to this weekend’s sled dog races is wondering: Is there enough snow?
Race organizers believe there is enough snow to run all three races, although some modifications are anticipated.
This week’s warm weather was not helpful, but cold nighttime temperatures preserved most of our snowpack. We are monitoring tonight’s weather pattern which includes a chance of rain. Icy trails are dangerous for dogs, mushers, spectators and volunteers. The UPSDA Board is working with race officials and trail crew, sorting through options to get our mushers safely down the trail.
Stay tuned – more details coming once we see what tonight’s weather has in store.
WZMQ19, an official media sponsor of the UP200, will broadcast the race start live at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 17.
