Calumet nears completion of downtown green space project

CALUMET, Mich. (WZMQ) – For more than five years, the village of Calumet has been working to add a large greenspace in its downtown. Now the two lots adjacent to the Calumet Theatre will include a paved and a grassy area, along with public seating and a band shell.

The village hopes to use the new space for events like festivals and the annual summer farmers market. Calumet Village Manager Megan Haselden said it will also help draw more foot traffic to the downtown.

“It was a way for us to start envisioning how we can bring more traffic down here,” said Haselden. “And have a space that feels a little more modern and put together as a place for people to gather.”

Calumet plans to have the green space completed in time to host events in it later this summer.
