NEWBERRY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A snowmobiler was seriously injured in a crash Saturday evening.

The Luce County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call just before 6:30 p.m. in Pentland Township, in Newberry.

The snowmobiler, identified as Clayton Henniger, was returning to America’s Best Value Inn on his snowmobile when he struck a snowbank and went airborne. Deputies believe he was going over 80 mph at the time.

Henniger suffered back and leg injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time, which deputies said prevented significant head trauma.
