Yesterday’s storms brought hail and damaging winds to a few communities in the U.P. and unfortunately severe weather will be possible tonight and tomorrow. The Storm Prediction Center has placed ALL of the U.P under a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow. The main severe threat will be for the overnight hours, but it is not looking like it will be very widespread. Model guidance has been quite inconsistent with tonight’s storm potential, but the ingredients surely are there for a strong thunderstorm or two to develop. While northern areas have a higher chance than southern areas, I do not want to rule out a storm hitting anywhere across the U.P. Be sure to have your weather radios and phone ringers on as these potential storms may pass by while many are sleeping. The severe threat continues into Thursday afternoon and evening as well, when another round of storms will possibly form as the cold front works through. Gusty winds will be likely across much of the U.P. ahead of this front, with some locations easily gusting to 40 MPH tonight and during the day tomorrow. Damaging winds, along with hail and frequent lightning may be possible for the overnight storms tonight in addition to the storms for the latter half of the day tomorrow. The Storm Prediction center has once again mentioned the slim chance of a tornado. Stay safe, heed all warnings and be sure to send us any photos/videos if severe weather impacts your area!
