CMU’s Paupore qualifies for NCAA Final in Steeplechase

Negaunee grad sets another personal best and Chippewa record

EUGENE, Ore. — Central Michigan Track & Field’s Emily Paupore proved her grit where it mattered the most on Thursday as she pushed through to a seventh-place, title race qualifying finish at the NCAA Steeplechase Semifinals at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

The Negaunee, Mich. senior will be continuing her historic run in the NCAA Championship race on Saturday among the nation’s fastest athletes in the event in a battle for the national title.

Paupore shaved 10 whole seconds from her personal best and CMU school record –which she achieved on May 30 at the Jacksonville preliminary– to fight her way into a qualifying spot in Eugene. She finished the race in an incredible 9:43.24.

The senior, now with eyes on the Championship on Saturday, will race again at Hayward Field in Eugene at 9:20 p.m. ET. The race will be streamed on ESPN.
