WASHINGTON, DC (WZMQ) – US Congressman Jack Bergman, along with Senators Slotkin and Peters, sent a letter to Michigan Governor Whitmer today. The letter outlines their readiness to support requests for federal aid for parts of Northern Michigan affected by last week’s ice storm. The storm resulted in over 100,000 power outages, prompting Governor Whitmer to declare a state of emergency in 12 Michigan counties. Once state resources have been exhausted, the governor may ask for federal assistance. The letter of support from the lawmakers assures those in affected areas that these elected officials will continue to work with local authorities to evaluate the scope of the emergency.
