Gaylord man sent to hospital after snowmobile crash

SANDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – A 75-year-old man from Gaylord, MI was transported to the hospital following a snowmobile crash on Saturday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, they were dispatched to the crash at approximately 12:30 pm in the Stonegate Heights subdivision in Sands Township.

The driver was fixing a family snowmobile, and drove off without a helmet on. He lost control of the snowmobile and rolled over. The driver was transported to UPHS-Marquette for serious injuries.

Excessive speed and not wearing a DOT helmet were contributing factors to the crash and injuries, but alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Forsyth Township Police, Sands EMS and Fire Department, and UPHS-Marquette all assisted at the scene.
