UPDATE: Two victims identified in Ironwood house fire

Ironwood, Mich. (WZMQ) – Ironwood Public Safety has identified the two people killed in a house fire in January.

Police say 58-year-old Jerry Kasieta and 81-year-old Joseph Kasieta died in the fire. Police say both were residents of the household at 410 Greenbush St.

After an investigation, police say the cause of the fire is still undetermined, but no foul play is suspected.

ORIGINAL STORY 1/7/24:

On January 7th, 2024, the Ironwood Public Safety Department responded to an emergency call reporting an active structure fire on Greenbush Street at approximately 6:57 a.m.

Upon their arrival, emergency responders found the residence fully engulfed in flames and smoke. The fire was brought under control around 7:45 a.m.

Two occupants were discovered within the premises and had died as a result of the fire. At this time, authorities are withholding the names of the victims, allowing for the necessary protocols and notifications to be carried out.

The Ironwood Public Safety Department has initiated a thorough investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. As the investigation progresses, additional information will be released to the public.
