Delta County Commissioners reduce qualification requirements for next administrator

DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Tuesday evening, the Delta County Board of Commissioners made changes to the required qualifications for its next administrator.

The board’s search for a new administrator began in February, when the former administrator was let go.

Previous administrators were required to have five years of experience, as well as a master’s degree or a bachelor of finance degree. The board reduced those qualifications to three to five years of experience and a bachelor’s degree.

“We didn’t agree on all the qualifications in that area,” said Commissioner Steven Viau. “Not that it’s bad; it’s just that I was more honed in on getting more experienced people in.”

The board is accepting applications for the position of county administrator.

“I think it’s going to be a fairly long process, depending on how many we get,” said Commissioner John Malnar.

A hiring deadline has not been set at this time.
